Legal
Anti-money laundering notice
Last updated 15 October 2026
Every UK accountant must check who their clients are. It is a legal requirement, not a judgement about you, and it only takes a few minutes.
Why we check
The Money Laundering, Terrorist Financing and Transfer of Funds Regulations 2017 require us to verify the identity of every new client before we start work, and to keep those checks up to date.
What we ask for
We may also run an electronic identity check, which does not affect your credit score.
- Photo ID, such as a passport or driving licence.
- Proof of address dated in the last three months, such as a utility bill or bank statement.
- For companies: details of directors and anyone owning more than 25%.
How we use the information
We use it only to meet our legal duties and keep it for five years after our relationship ends, as the regulations require. See our privacy notice for more.
Our reporting duty
If we suspect money laundering, the law requires us to report it to the National Crime Agency, and it forbids us from telling anyone we have done so.
